Notes: The Human Development Index (HDI) is a summary measure of average achievement in three key dimensions of human development: longevity (measured by life expectancy at birth), knowledge (measured by mean years of schooling and expected years of schooling), and standard of living (measured by per capita income). Each dimension is normalized to a 0-1 scale, and the HDI is calculated as the geometric mean of the three dimension indices.12

This subnational HDI series is available for provinces and highly urbanized cities for the years 2006, 2009, 2012, and 2015. No updated HDI calculations have been published since 2015.
