Notes:

  • The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for Education Services in the National Capital Region (NCR) measures price changes for educational services relative to the baseline year. The collection of data for the CPI is done through the Retail Price Survey. School tuition fees are collected at the beginning of the school year or semester.1

  • The major commodity grouping of CPI is based on the 2020 Philippine Classification of Individual Consumption According to Purpose (PCOICOP). This is a standard classification of individual consumption expenditures patterned after the one set by the United Nations. In the 2020 PCOICOP, education services (Division 10) covers five groups: 1) early childhood and primary education, 2) secondary education, 3) post-secondary non-tertiary education, 4) tertiary education, and 5) education not defined by level (e.g., tutoring, language proficiency classes).2
