Notes:

• The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco measures price changes in alcoholic drinks and tobacco (except those offered by restaurants and hotels) relative to the baseline year. The collection of data for the CPI is done through the Retail Price Survey.¹

• The major commodity grouping of CPI is based on the 2020 Philippine Classification of Individual Consumption According to Purpose (PCOICOP). This is a standard classification of individual consumption expenditures patterned after the one set by the United Nations. In the 2020 PCOICOP, alcoholic beverages, tobacco, and narcotics (Division 02) covers four groups: 1) alcoholic drinks (e.g., wine, beer, spirits), 2) alcoholic production services (e.g., brewing services), 3) tobacco (e.g., tobacco, cigarettes, vape), 4) narcotics.²
