The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages measures price changes in food and non-alcoholic beverages, mainly for consumption and preparation at home, relative to the baseline year. Food and beverages offered by restaurants and related establishment are covered by separated series (Restaurants and Accommodation Services). The collection of data for the CPI is done through the Retail Price Survey.1

The major commodity grouping of CPI is based on the 2020 Philippine Classification of Individual Consumption According to Purpose (PCOICOP). This is a standard classification of individual consumption expenditures patterned after the one set by the United Nations. In the 2020 PCOICOP, food and non-alcoholic beverages (Division 01) covers two groups: 1) food (e.g., rice, bread, meat, vegetables) and 2) non-alcoholic beverages (e.g., juice, coffee, tea).2
